Day 1: Arrival in Chennai
Arrive in Chennai, the largest city in South India, and also the capital city of Tamil Nadu. You can take a walk to explore the city, start at the iconic Kapaleeshwarar Temple, where devotees worship Lord Shiva. This temple is rich with detailed sculptures and frescoes offering insights into the region's artistic heritage. Continue to the San Thome Cathedral Basilica, a Gothic-inspired masterpiece built over St. Thomas's tomb. End the day by enjoying panoramic views of the city and the Bay of Bengal from the top of the Chennai Lighthouse.
Day 2 - 3: Mamallapuram - The Ancient Port City
Before heading to Mamallapuram, make a detour to Kanchipuram, famed for its temple architecture, grand 1000-pillared halls, towering temple structures, and exquisite silk saris.
Mamallapuram, known for its group of monuments and temples, showcasing the architectural brilliance of the Pallava dynasty. Day 4 - 5: Pondicherry - "French Riviera of the East"
You will find it as a romantic getaway when you arrive in Pondicherry. This former French colony beautifully blends French architecture with traditional Indian sensibilities, offering a slower pace of life to enjoy. Stroll through the French Quarter to embrace the city's laid-back vibe amid colonial buildings and cozy street cafes. Pondicherry is also ideal for a cycle tour, and you can take a leisurely bicycle ride to discover the streets. If you are interested, you can explore the spiritual community of Aurobindo Ashram, it offers a serene environment for reflection and learning, with various activities and programs designed to help individuals on their spiritual journey.
Day 6: Thanjavur - "Rice Bowl of Tamil Nadu"
Thanjavur plays various roles in Southern India. Besides its agricultural importance, it is also home to Tanjore painting, a painting style unique to the region. Adding to its cultural significance, Brihadishvara Temple, located in the center of the city, is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Great Living Chola Temples'. This temple features one of the largest bull statues in India, intricately carved from a single piece of granite. Afterward, immerse yourself in the royal heritage of the early 19th century at Thanjavur Palace, adorned with a fascinating collection of artifacts. Here you can observe the intricate craftsmanship of local artisans as they produce exquisite bronzes and handicrafts.
Day 7 - 8: Madurai - "The City That Never Sleeps"
Travel towards Madurai, and take a slight detour to tour Trichy, an ancient stronghold of the Chola Dynasty during medieval times. Explore the imposing Rock Fort, a historic fort and temple complex perched on the top of a massive rock. Climb to the Shiva Temple, then continue up the steps to the Ganapati Temple at the summit, which offers panoramic views of the city.
Madurai, is renowned as South India's premier temple town and a revered pilgrimage destination. Other than exploring the spiritual temples, you will also find the city remains lively at all hours with its thriving night market & food scene. Madurai food has a distinct taste and aroma, so don't miss the chance to try the local favorite, Kothu Parotta.
Next day, visit the thousand-year-old Meenakshi Temple, one of India's largest pilgrim sites with 12 towering gopurams. Later, visit the Tirumala Nayak Palace - a gracious building revealing the power and wealth of the Nayakas who made Madurai their capital in the 16th and 17th centuries. Conclude the day with a visit to the Alagar Hills and Tirupara Kundran Rock Temple.
Day 9 - 10: Periyar - Wildlife Adventure
Continue your trip to Periyar Tiger Reserve, India's oldest sanctuary and one of the best places to see the Asian Elephant. The reserve offers diverse trails for hiking lovers at all skill levels, and a guided trek in the morning will lead you through different terrains where you can spot rare plants, insects, and birds. Drift along the serene waters, watch the sunset, savor delicious local specialties, and fall asleep to the gentle lapping of the waves.

Day 12 - 13: Kochi - The Queen of the Arabian Sea
After a relaxing night in Alleppey, head to Kochi, formerly known as Cochin, a vibrant city on the southwest coast of India. The colonial legacies of the Portuguese and Dutch have made Kochi a unique cultural and historical destination. Start your city tour at the Dutch Palace, where you will see Kerala murals depicting Hindu temple art, portraits, and exhibits of the Rajas of Kochi. Then, visit Fort Kochi, a historic neighborhood known for its colonial-era buildings and quaint streets. It reflects a blend of Dutch, Portuguese, and British elements.
