How to Plan a Trip to China and Vietnam in 2025
China vs. Vietnam? Some travelers may find it hard to decide which one to visit. So why not travel to both at once? Read on to discover how to plan a trip to China and Vietnam with ease.
Best Time to Go to China and Vietnam
The weather in China and Vietnam is quite different, which means the best time to visit each country varies. Generally speaking, if you want to combine both destinations in one trip, March, April, October, and November are the most recommended months. During these times, you can enjoy pleasant weather and picturesque landscapes. It's also a good balance in terms of cost, crowds, and overall experience.
Despite the warm and humid weather, summer offers a lively atmosphere and better deals, which is perfect for those seeking both outdoor activities and value.
Winter offers pleasant weather in Vietnam, especially in the south, while China can be cold. It is ideal for travelers who enjoy crisp air and festivities.
Where to Visit in China and Vietnam
Top Places to Visit in China
Beijing
Beijing offers countless iconic attractions for visitors, such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace.
In addition, don't miss exploring the city's traditional hutongs or catching cultural performances like the Peking Opera and Kung Fu Show.
Beijing is also known for its delicious food, and one of the must-try dishes is the famous Beijing Roast Duck. Odynovo's tour guide will take you to an authentic local restaurant to savor this culinary delight.

Shanghai
The metropolitan city of Shanghai is enchanting and vibrant. Strolling along the Bund and Nanjing Road, you'll easily fall in love with this incredible destination.
Yu Garden offers a different side of Shanghai, where traditional Chinese architecture and modern skyscrapers create a strong contrast between old and new.
Take an excursion to Zhujiajiao Water Town and enjoy a peaceful taste of local life just outside the bustling city.
Xian
You may not truly grasp the richness of China's culture and history until seeing the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an. This world-famous site is one of the top reasons to visit China.
As an ancient capital, Xi'an offers plenty to do: from learning calligraphy at the Small Wild Goose Pagoda to cycling along the Ancient City Wall, and from admiring the Great Mosque to tasting local specialties in the Muslim Quarter. Xi'an will never let you down.
Top Places to Visit in Vietnam
Ha Long Bay
Taking a 1-night, 2-day cruise in Ha Long Bay is a must-do in Vietnam.
From morning Tai Chi sessions to excursions exploring karst caves, from kayaking to watching the sunset - your daytime will be full of memorable activities. Don't go to sleep too early, or you'll miss the starry sky. Plus, the delicious Vietnamese food served on board is a delightful bonus.
Hanoi
It's hard to skip Hanoi when traveling to Vietnam. While you don't need to spend many days here, it's worth slowing down to enjoy the charm of this city.
Take a cyclo ride through the bustling Old Quarter, visit the solemn Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and uncover the secrets behind the traditional Water Puppet Show. Oh, you must try authentic Vietnamese Pho in Hanoi. It is the best.

Hoi An
Located in central Vietnam, Hoi An is a peaceful and well-preserved ancient town that showcases the traditional coastal lifestyle of Vietnam. Taking a basket boat tour, having tailor-made clothes, and joining a cooking class are among the most popular activities here.
You might also consider adding a two-day extension in Da Nang for a relaxing beach holiday.
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Ho Chi Minh City is also an international metropolis, but it's completely different from Shanghai. The sleepless Saigon is full of feasting and revelry everywhere. One of the best ways to indulge in the city's nightlife is by joining a Vespa tour from dusk till night.
If you're interested in history, the city also offers many sites related to the Vietnam War, such as the Cu Chi Tunnels, the War Remnants Museum, the Reunification Palace, and the Ba Den battlefield site.
Have more time? Consider spending a day or two exploring the Mekong Delta. A boat ride through its narrow waterways, surrounded by lush greenery, offers a peaceful escape from the city.
How Many Days to Spend
7 to 10 Days
I recommend choosing just one country, either China or Vietnam, if you only have 7 to 10 days. This way, you can explore the highlights without rushing, and taste the destination at a comfortable pace, rather than just skimming the surface.
12 to 15 Days
You can explore the main tourist destinations in China and Vietnam in about two weeks. Plan to spend at least 6 days in China: 3 to 4 days in Beijing and 2 to 3 days in Shanghai. In Vietnam, consider spending 2 days in Hanoi, another 2 days in Ha Long Bay, and finish your trip with 2 to 3 days in Ho Chi Minh City.
15 to 20 Days
Besides the must-visit places like Beijing, Shanghai, Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, and Ho Chi Minh City, you can also add 2 days in Xi'an and 2 to 3 days in Hoi An to your China and Vietnam trip. These two ancient cities will make your journey even more unforgettable.
More Than 20 Days
If you have more than 20 days, why not discover deeper? Add a few extra days to China's beautiful destinations like Guilin, Chengdu, or Yunnan, and treat yourself to a beach escape in Da Nang, Nha Trang, or Phu Quoc Island. It's the perfect way to slow down and truly connect with the spirit of Asia.
Transportation Between China and Vietnam
The main international airports in China for overseas tourists include Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX), Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY), and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). All of these airports offer direct flights to Vietnam.
In Vietnam, the major international gateways are Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi (HAN), and Da Nang International Airport (DAD).
Da Nang Airport
There are also other ways to travel between China and Vietnam, such as cross-border trains or buses. However, the procedures can be a bit complicated, and English is not commonly spoken along the way. Unless you're looking for an adventurous, local-style experience, we generally will not arrange these options for our customers.
