Best Time to Visit Halong Bay: Travel in Four Seasons

The unique karst landscape of Halong Bay always attracts thousands of visitors to Vietnam all year round. When is the best time to visit Halong Bay? You will have a clue after reading this article below.

Autumn could be one of the best seasons to visit Halong Bay. From September to November, the weather here is pleasant, with less summer heat, low rainfall and a clear, peaceful sea. There is less fog on the sea, giving a clear view of the islands and rocks in various shapes. This is the reason why autumn is believed to be a period that can show the beat charms of Halong Bay.

So feel free to take a cruise on this calm sea or hike to the mountaintop for a great viewpoint, which provides an excellent view to enjoy the gallery-like bay. Due to the good weather, there will be a lot of tourists during this time, which is a good chance to feel the lively atmosphere in this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

March through May is a good time for Halong Bay water activities. Compared to autumn, there may be a little more rain in spring, but the temperature is more comfortable at around 24 ℃ with plenty of sunshine outdoors. This means there is more time to explore Halong Bay with all kinds of activities, such as exciting kayaking between the islands and caves.

As the temperature rises in May, you will have more opportunities to enjoy a relaxing swim in the bay. More importantly, if you visit at this time, you can avoid the crowds and still enjoy the good weather, as well as more opportunities to take ideal photographs.

As it is late winter in January, the weather at this time is a little chilly at night with an average temperature of 18 ℃. If you take a cruise in the morning at this time, you will find the misty scenery of Halong Bay to be quite dreamy, with a thin mist covering the islands or around your boat.

The cloudy atmosphere makes the tranquil bay a little more mysterious, especially when the afternoon sun finally appears and brings your eyes back to the emerald mountain, giving you the feeling of treasure hunting.

You can also stay a little longer in February to experience Tet, the Vietnamese New Year, which is one of the most celebrated festivals in the country.

Summer is usually the rainy season in Halong Bay, with most rainfall concentrated in the hot month of August. Compared to other months, there is more rain from June to August, but it usually doesn't last long. After the rain, the temperature is cooler and the sky and sea are particularly bright, as is the island's vibrant flora.

There are also fewer crowds and cruisers at sea during this time, which means cheaper cruise fares. You can even save up to 40% on a cruise ticket compared to the high season. But other things to mention are the higher temperatures with sunny days, much heatstroke protection must be prepared.
