Day 7: Fethiye, Kayaköy
After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to a picturesque abandoned town, Kayaköy (20 min), a village known as Karmilissos in ancient times, dating back to the 3rd century BC. The observed buildings on the hillside of the town were built by Greeks in the second half of the 19th century and were abounded in the 1920s due to the Population Exchange between Greece and Turkey. Before the village was abandoned, there were 350-400 houses built here in a way that they did not obstruct each other in terms of view and light. The two-story buildings were not bigger than 50 sqm. The ground floors generally served as cellars. Each house had an underground cistern, where the rainwater was collected from the roof at the entrance. In addition to the residences, there are many chapels among the houses, two large churches, a school building, and a customs building.
Return to your hotel in the afternoon and have the rest of the day at leisure.
