About This Trip
This one-week Thailand tour will take you to visit the highlights of Bangkok and Chiang Mai, and get a deep cultural immersion with the Songkran Festival (April 13-16, 2025). Explore Bangkok's essential sights like the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. At Siam Square, you'll have a chance to join the water battle and celebrate the festival like locals. Then, fly north to Chiang Mai, where you can witness the traditional rituals of Songkran, visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, and Wat Phra Singh, and take a cooking class at Lanna Family.

Day 1: Arrival, Bangkok
Sawatdee! Fly into Thailand's dynamic capital of Bangkok, also known as "the city of angels". Your guide will greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel on a private transfer. The rest of the day is on your own to relax or explore the surroundings. You may feel the deep atmosphere of the coming festival Songkran, the most important one annually held in Thailand.

Day 2: Bangkok, Songkran Festival Tour
Your memorable Bangkok tour begins with a mesmerizing morning chanting ritual by Buddhist monks at Wat Pho. After that, a tuk-tuk ride through Pak Khlong Talat Flower Market will lead you to Thailand's most majestic royal monument - the Grand Palace. Your guide will introduce its glorious history and sparkling gilded structures, including the highly-revered Wat Phra Kaew. In the afternoon, board a traditional long-tailed boat sailing along Bangkok's crisscrossing canals, locally known as Klongs, for an up-close glimpse of local riverine life.
As Thailand's capital city, Bangkok is undoubtedly an ideal place to celebrate the Thai New Year (Songkran) mainly known for its joyful water splashing. You will be escorted to Siam Square to join the locals and witness the nationwide carnival. Here you may see thousands of Thais and tourists carrying anything that can spray water. Be prepared to get wet in the warm celebration of this Water Festival symbolically wash off all misfortunes in the past year.

Day 3: Bangkok, Exotic Floating and Railway Markets
Wake up fresh and travel out of the city to explore two distinct markets today. At the famous Damnoen Saduak, take a relaxing boat ride through the slender canals to experience a traditional Thai Floating Market, passing countless boats selling tropical fruits and other delights. Be sure to try some Thai street food and capture amazing photos. Continue onto the unusual Maeklong Railway Market to witness vendors' incredible speed of packing their stalls when the train approaches. After that, drive back to Bangkok in the late afternoon, with the rest of the day to relax.

Day 4: Bangkok - Chiang Mai
Depart the bustling Bangkok and fly north to the laid-back city of Chiang Mai.
Upon landing, meet your local guide for a private transfer to your hotel. Check into the hotel and freshen up before venturing into the mountainous area of Doi Suthep to visit a Meo Hilltribe Village. You may see the Meo people dressed in colorful traditional costumes and learn about their traditional way of life. Next, go for a scenic drive up to Doi Suthep Mountain and climb the 309-step Golden Naga staircase to this hilltop temple - Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. You will be rewarded with fantastic city views from the temple grounds, especially at sunset.

Day 5: Chiang Mai Exploration & Traditional Rituals of Songkran
This morning is reserved for an introductory tour of the city's principal sights. Start from the riverfront Worarot Market with a relaxing stroll to observe the local people's way of life. Then, take a leisurely walk through the highly intact Thapae Gate, before visiting two remarkable temples - Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh, you may witness traditional rituals of Songkran such as carrying sand to the temple forming sand pagodas, and bathing rites on Buddha statues at Wat Phra Singh.

Day 6: Chiang Mai, Lanna Cooking Class
The cooking class is highly recommended when visiting Chiang Mai. In the morning, head out to visit a traditional Lanna family, where the hospitable host will show you around his graceful Thai-style teakwood house, and walk you through the orchard and herb garden to collect fresh ingredients. You will then learn how to make some authentic Northern Thai dishes under the host's guidance. Wrap up the morning with a delicious home-cooked lunch with the family.
