Begin your Lisbon exploration at the riverside suburb of Belém, famous as the starting point of many Portuguese maritime explorations. Check out the UNESCO-listed Jerónimos Monastery (Hieronymus Monastery) and the striking Belém Tower (exterior). Both of them are excellent examples of Manueline architecture in the 16th century.
After lunch (pay on your own), step into the Tile Museum to browse colorful decorative tiles from various historical periods and areas, learning how they have enriched human life and culture. Getting out of it, take a stroll around Alfama, a typical neighborhood in Lisbon filled with maze-like cobbled streets and traditional houses.
