How to Pay in Malaysia: Currency Guide of Ringgit 2024

It is quite convenient to change ringgit in Malaysia, so you don't need to exchange money before your trip. The currency rate is always better in Malaysia. This rule is usually suitable for most countries.

However, bringing large amounts of Malaysian ringgit into or out of the country is restricted due to the regulations. You can only carry the equivalent of up to USD 10000. If amounts exceed USD 10000, you must make the declaration at customs.

Debit/Credit Card

It is quite common to use credit cards in this country. You can use a credit card to purchase materials at a higher price, a hotel deposit, and some emergencies. US Dollars

In some tourist areas, high-end hotels, and some shops, US dollars may be accepted. However, you can find currency exchange services at airports, banks, currency exchange offices, or some large shopping malls.

Hotel

Depending on your budget, you may cost  50 dollars to 100 dollars per night for accommodation. The prices float depending on different areas and months, but it won't change out of logic.

For 4-star hotels, the average price of a double room is about 250 to 300 ringgits per day. If you consider a 5-star hotel, the price is over 500 ringgit. But the services are also better than the 4-star hotel.

In Malaysia, a cup of Americano is about 10 ringgit, a pint of beer is about 20 ringgit, a moderate dinner for 2 without wine is about 50 ringgit, and if you want to try some street food, each dish is about 10 to 20 ringgit.

Transportation

Metro rides in Kuala Lumpur cost from 1.1 ringgit to 6 ringgit per person, so you won't worry about traffic jams. For transfer from the airport to downtown, taking a bus will cost about 15 ringgit per person, and a taxi will cost about 125 ringgit.
