Where to Stay When Visiting Mt. Fuji | Recommended Areas

Lake Kawaguchiko Area
The area is home to Lake Kawaguchi. You can have easy access there by highway bus from Tokyo and Osaka or by express train from Tokyo. In this area, you can behold the great view of Mount Fuji, take a boat on the lake, and ride the Panoramic Ropeway to overlook the whole landscape. Other worth-visiting places include the Fujisan Sengen Shrine, the Music Forest Museum, and an amusement park in Fuji-Q Highland. Gora, Hakone Area
Gora is a famous hot spring town perched on a hillside. It is a small part of Hakonetown perched on a hillside. Gora gains popularity for many kinds of onsen with different colors and effects. A wide range of hot springs makes the area one of the most enjoyable places to view Mount Fuji, especially during the winter months. The Ropeway is also accessible from Gora, enabling you to ride a cable car to see the scenic views of the Owakudani Valley of Hell and Lake Ashi. You can visit Gora Park to view colorful blossoms and enjoy a relaxing bath in a hot spring. Gora offers a wide selection of accommodations, such as hot spring guesthouses, historical ryokans, shopping malls and eateries with Japanese cuisine.
Lake Yamanakako Area
A 2-hour drive from the hot spring paradise of Hakone, the area is home to Lake Yamanakako, one of the largest of the Fuji Five Lakes. The area is at the highest altitude and closest to Mount Fuji. You have a chance to take marvelous photos of lake sunsets and mountain reflections in the area. After admiring the splendor of Mount Fuji, there are also a number of historical museums here, such as the Teddy Bear World Museum, the Mishima Yukio Library Museum, and the Santa Claus Museum. The area also has a number of family-oriented facilities, like budget hotels, traditional Ryokan inns, and amusement parks.
Fuji City
For colorful nightlife, you can choose Fuji City as your destination. It is located east of Shizuoka-ken Prefecture, on the coast of Honshu. The city lies just southeast of Mount Fuji and is easily accessible from Tokyo (as a stop on the Shinkansen line from Osaka to Tokyo). You can scale the mountain peak from here and enjoy the summit's sunrise. The city's vibrant nightlife before your climb is unmissable. Fuji City is full of a variety of izakaya (Japanese bars), where you can savor local beverages like beer or a cocktail. There are also three large karaoke centers where you can have a fun singing experience.
Mount Fuji
Mishima
Mishima, located in east Shizuoka Prefecture on Honshu Island, enjoyed its prosperity during the Edo period. The city serves as the gateway to Mount Fuji and Hakone, about 30 kilometers away from the mountain. Mishima has many scenic spots to capture the beauty of Mount Fuji. You can cross the 400-meter Mishima Skywalk, the longest bridge specially designed for pedestrians, to catch a picture of the far mountain and Suruga Bay, as well as the surrounding lush scenery. As for Yamanaka Castle Remains Park, it offers you a magnificently combined image of Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay. Or you can stand beside Nakazato Warm Water Reservoir to take a photo of the magical reflection of Mount Fuji. Besides, there are many hotels and restaurants with fabulous views of Mount Fuji.
