The Fuji Five Lakes, also commonly known as Fujigoko, are situated at the northern foot of Mount Fuji at an elevation of about 1000 meters. The region, composed of the lakes Kawaguchiko, Saiko, Yamanakako, Shojiko, and Motosuko, is a surprising place to view Mount Fuji surrounded by traditional cottages in close distance and take photos of its clearly visible reflection in the lakes. The lake resort area is full of a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, camping, and viewing blooming tulips. You can visit the nation-famous amusement park in Fuji Q Highland to experience the adventuresome rollercoasters. Besides, you can explore the nature around the area, like Narusawa Ice Cave and Aokigahara Forest, to enjoy the lakeside charm.

It's a nice experience for you to climb the mountain during the summer months. Mount Fuji attracts more than 200,000 hikers every year, including expert mountaineers and beginners. It gives you a chance to view the beautiful sunrise and surrounding landscapes from the summit. There are several different trails accessible to the top of Mount Fuji for climbers of all abilities. There are four top popular routes starting from the July to September:

Yoshida Trail: the easiest and most popular trail with glorious summit sunrises and easy access from Tokyo.

Subashiri Trail: the second-easiest trail, with refreshing tree lines and a trek through the forest to offer.

Gotemba Trail: the longest trail with the least steep ascent and crowds, but one that demands great strength.

Fujinomiya Trail: the second-most popular and shortest trail, with more steep ascent and rocks.

Every trail varies in distance to the top of the mountain, and a number of huts that offer food and drinks are available along each route. The trails take you 5-10 hours to make an ascent and 3-6 hours to make a descent. You can choose one of the trails to experience the different sights according to your ability and preferences.

Exploring the Hakone National Park will be a great part of your visit to Mount Fuji. Hakone National Park, also known as Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, lies in southwestern Tokyo and is mainly composed of the Mount Fuji area, Lake Ashinoko, the Izu Peninsula, and the Izu Islands in the Pacific Ocean. The Mount Fuji area is home to many ancient forests like the Aokigahara Jukai Forest. You can trek through some forests or take a ride around the foot of the mountain to sightsee the brilliant cherry blossoms along the way. Lake Ashinoko is famous for the "great boiling valley" resulting from hot springs. You can ride the Hakone Komagatake Ropeway to see huge expanses of beautiful foliage. Izu Peninsula has magical, rugged cliffs along the Jogasaki Coast and Cape Irozaki and spectacular waterfalls at Kawazu Nanadaru to explore. The Izu Islands are home to many species of plants and marine life. Wander through timeless forests, explore lava caves, and bathe in hot springs. You can take a sunbath on the bank of Lake Motosu and even snorkel with sea turtles and dolphins off the coast of the southern Izu Islands.

Mount Fuji can be spotted on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line from Tokyo to Osaka.
