About This Trip
This immersive expedition packs a lot of outdoor adventure in two weeks to let you experience some of the greatest natural hits of Brazil. You'll travel through Barreirinha, Atins, Parnaiba, Barra Grande, Jericoacoara, Trairi, and Cumbuco. See the surreal lagoons and dunes landscape of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. Sail through stunning mangroves of the Preguiças River. Discover the Parnaiba Delta, and enjoy a leisure beach holiday in Barra Grande. Take a buggy tour to Paradise Lagoon, and watch the sunset on the Mundau River.

Day 1: Arrive in Barreirinha
On arrival at Sao Luis Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel in the town of Barreirinhas, the gateway to the Lencois National Park. The transfer usually takes about four hours.

Day 2: Barreirinha
Spend the day exploring the National Park of Lencois Maranhnses, an ecosystem formed of kilometers of white dunes and beautiful lagoons. Beyond relishing its natural beauty, you will also visit a small local community and have an optional lunch at your cost there.
If you would like to make this day even more special, the Optional Scenic Flight will be a nice choice: board a small private plane for a spectacular panoramic flight over the dunes and the Northern coastline.

Day 3: Barreirinha - Atins
After breakfast, meet the boatman at the river bank to start the four hours' Preguicas River Tour. The beautiful scenery of the Preguiças River is typical of tropical forests with occasional dunes splitting the jungle and plunging into the water. Please keep an eye for capuchin monkeys and caimans while your motorboat gliding on the water.
Your first stop on the tour will be the village of Vassouras on the edge of the Pequenos Lencois where you will be able to explore on foot and swim in the river. At the second stop, Mandacaru, you can pay the entrance fee on-site and climb to the top of the lighthouse for incredible views of the rivers and the forest. Finally, you will stop at Atins and meet a local driver for the private transfer to your hotel.

Day 4: Atins
This morning, you will have a choice between exploring the dunes by horseback ride or to cross the Preguicas River and discover the Lencois' sister park, Pequenos Lencois on ATVs. In the afternoon, have a delicious seafood lunch at Canto do Atins followed by more dives at the local lagoons and enjoy a stunning sunset on the way back to the village.

Day 5: Atins
This morning, you will meet a local fisherman and go out on his boat for fishing. With your catch in hand, you will go along to a bar owned by the fisherman's family to have your fish be cooked. The afternoon is free for your exploration. With the National Park to one side, the Reguicas River to the other, and the ocean in front, in the enchanting village of Atins, you can choose to refresh from the hot sun from the lagoons, river, and the sea, or explore the village on foot, take pictures of the donkeys that roam free, and relax in this piece of Brazilian paradise.

Day 6: Atins - Parnaiba
Transfer in a 4x4 vehicle to Parnaiba, crossing the Pequenos Lençois then, continuing on the highway after Paulino Neves.
In the afternoon, be transferred to the Parnaiba dock where you will board a private speedboat to explore the Parnaiba Delta. You will cross through several creeks, dunes, and islands with a stop at Caju bay for a swim and stop in one of the islands of the Delta for a delicious optional homemade lunch.
As the sun sets, you will see one of the most beautiful spectacles of the region, the flight of the scarlet ibises from the beach to take shelter on the trees, a cloud of bright red birds flying over you. On the way back to Parnaiba, the boatman will try to find caimans on the riverbanks using flashlights.

Day 7: Parnaiba - Barra Grande
After breakfast, a two-hour drive along the coast of Piaui state will take you to Barra Grande. It's a short trip full of beautiful beaches.
This afternoon, a local guide will take you on small canoes to the preservation area of the Sea Horse where you will be able to learn about this fascinating species. During the tour, you will also have the opportunity to see a local oyster farm and to do relaxing flotation on the calm waters of the river according to the tide. The transfer to/from the hotel to the river will be done in a horse carriage.

Day 8: Barra Grande
Day at leisure to enjoy the beach, eat the local seafood, and rest.

Day 9: Barra Grande - Jericoacoara
Proceed to Jericoacoara today. On the way, you will have time to visit Tatajuba, a village that was covered by the action of the dunes and rebuilt by fishermen on the other side of the river under the name of New Tatajuba. For many people, it represents what Jericoacoara was 20 years ago.
You are also able to visit the "Duna do Funil", one of the highest dunes of this area, and you may try your skills going down on a sandboard.
The transfer will take around 7 hours and the rest of the day is yours to relax by the beach of Jericoacoara. At the end of the day, walk up to the Sunset Dune that plunges into the ocean to see this breathtaking spectacle.

Day 10: Jericoacoara
Your Buggy Tour to Paradise Lagoon will start with a short ride at 9 am to the starting point where you will have a 30-minute hike to the Pedra Furada, a huge stone arc carved by the action of waves, wind, and rain.
After the hike, you will travel by buggy to the Blue Lagoon which is characterized by beautiful blue-green freshwater, with white sand and wood benches inside the water to sit and have some caipirinhas. Not far from the Blue Lagoon, you will also visit the Paradise Lagoon, with some time for an optional lunch in one of the few options of bars and restaurants situated on the shore.

Day 11: Jericoacoara - Trairi
Today's journey will be almost entirely by the sea, over the beach sand. You will cross rivers on barges, see fishermen villages and stop for a swim if you like. After approximately 4 hours' drive, you will reach Trairi.
Late afternoon, you will be taken to the Mundau where a private boat will take you upstream to enjoy the calm water of this beautiful river. The margins on both sides are formed by dunes that plunge into the water, patched by pieces of mangroves and coconut forests. Sunset from the river is a magical moment and a bottle of champagne can be added to this tour at request in advance.

Day 12: Trairi
Day at leisure or optional kitesurf lesson for beginners, where you will learn using a trainer kite, how to set up the gear, about the wind direction, what is a safety area, safety systems, how to launch and land the kite, and kite control (power and neutral zone).

Day 13: Trairi - Cumbuco
The last leg of this amazing trip is Cumbuco. The drive will take about three hours, following the sea and with stops to admire the scenery.
After arrival, you can relax at your hotel or take an optional tour to explore the area by buggy with a local driver.

Day 14: Cumbuco - Departure
Spend the morning exploring Fortaleza that is home to a modern downtown area teeming with top-rate hotels, international-class restaurants, excellent entertainment, and show house, as well as the preserved old part of the town which is a guardian of the best of Fortaleza's past. After the tour, you will be transferred to Fortaleza International airport by a Portuguese speaking driver for your onward flight.
