Itinerary

• Day 1: Kigali, Arrival

  Welcome to Rwanda, an orderly, safe, and vibrant African country reborn from frightful disasters.

  Arrive at Kigali International Airport, welcomed by the courteous staff of Akagera Aviation, who will assist you with fast-track customs, immigration clearance, and visa processing. Then, outside the airport exit, our representative will pick you up, transfer you to your hotel in a private vehicle, and help you check-in.

  The rest of the day is yours to relax, enjoy a delicious dinner, and have a restful night.

• Day 2: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Ruhengeri

  The morning tour in Kigali includes visits to the Rwanda Art Museum, the Kigali Genocide Memorial, and the Niyo Arts Gallery. With it, you will get overwhelmed by the grim massacre, pay tribute to the victims of the tragedy, and witness the incredible creativity of African artists in their colorful paintings, sculptures, dance, music, and drumming displays. Those wanting to learn more about the capital city and its people can choose to see the Museum for Campaign Against Genocide or a local market.

  After lunch, set on a scenic drive (about 2.5 hours) to the Volcanoes National Park region in Musanze, previously known as Ruhengeri.

• Day 3: Gorilla Trek & Cultural Village

  Arrive at the headquarters of the Volcanoes National Park in time to join the others hiking through the forest to search for mountain gorillas. The trekking may take one to five or even more hours, depending on the gorilla family's transfer and activity area. Your informative guides will lead you through the areas where they are most likely to be found and leave you one hour to observe them after locating the designated family.

  Afterward, return to your lodge for lunch and a break. Then, visit the gorilla guardians' cultural village, where you will enjoy traditional dances presented by the villagers, listen to gorilla songs and old stories, get involved in their food preparation, and visit the local healer and the king's palace.

• Day 4: Golden Monkey, Twin Lakes, and Ellen Campus

  Though not as pronounced as Mountain gorillas, the beautiful golden monkey (Blue Monkey) is also endemic to the Virunga Volcanoes mountains. Head out early this morning on a golden monkey track, searching for the playful monkeys leaping on bamboo branches or frolicking on the forest floor. Then, join your driver and return to your resort for lunch and cleaning.

  The afternoon is filled out with a guided walk around the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, a leisurely boat ride, and a self-guided tour of the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

• Day 5: Volcanoes National Park - Kigali - Nairobi

  Set out for Kigali after a delectable breakfast at the resort and arrive in time for late lunch at a well-selected restaurant. Then, be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight to Kenya.

  Arrive in Nairobi in about 1.5 hours and be transferred to your hotel for check-in.

• Day 6: Nairobi - Maasai Mara

  Your destination today is boundless Maasai Mara. Arrive after a 5.5-hour scenic drive and check into your lodge for lunch and refreshments. Late afternoon, join a guided safari to discover its wildlife kaleidoscope: grazing gazelles, stripped zebras, peaceful giraffes, solid elephants, and lions or leopards hiding in bushes, alertly looking for hunting opportunities.

• Day 7: Maasai Mara National Reserve

  It's a day with more chances to encounter the well-known "Big Five" and other beautiful and magical creatures living on this land. If lucky enough, you may catch some incredible footage of big cats hunting.

  Dream of dining in the raw wildness of Africa, beneath iconic acacias and on sprawling tawny savannahs? Why not book a bush dinner or sundowner with your lodge?

  It's another day to indulge in the endless wildness and enjoy wonderful moments with animals. Or you may take a half day to visit a Masai village and hear legendary stories of Masai warriors.
